Happy Holidays, everyone! I hope you all have a blessed holiday. ♥

This time of the year always puts me in the mood for movies. Whenever I was home from college, my sister and I would snuggle up on the couch and put on a DVD every night. I won’t be with my family this year, but I’m still keeping the tradition alive.

Our favorite type of movie? Chick flicks! They’re just fun, you know? I don’t have any more reason than that. I love popping one of these in for some light-hearted entertainment. I’ve been watching movies every night this past week, and I’ve been in such a good mood since.

Here’s what I’ve seen the last week. I’ve seen all these movies before but I’ve never stopped enjoying them. I hope you’d all watch them with me!

The Devil Wears Prada

The Devil Wears Prada

Nigel: Who is that sad little person? Are we doing a before-and-after piece I don’t know about?

Lmao I love this line forever.

I love The Devil Wears Prada so much! It’s my favorite out of all of them. Meryl Streep is amazing as Miranda Priestly. And of course, the clothes! I want them all. I love for Andy’s makeover montage. Life goals right there.

Miss Congeniality

Miss Congeniality

Stan Fields: Miss Rhode Island, please describe your idea of a perfect date.
Cheryl “Rhode Island”: That’s a tough one. I’d have to say April 25th. Because it’s not too hot, not too cold, all you need is a light jacket.

I can’t believe Miss Congeniality is fourteen years old. 2000 will be almost fifteen years ago. Where did the time go? This movie was one of my favorite in my early teens. I don’t watch actual beauty pageants myself (with their unfortunate implications that I won’t touch on at the moment), but this movie always makes me happy. On my bad days, I just tell myself to wear the crown, be the crown, I am the crown.

Legally Blonde

Legally Blonde

Warner Huntington III: You got into Harvard Law?
Elle: What? Like it’s hard?

Another old favorite! Nothing makes me happier than seeing a wonderful, flawless lady become fully realized. And you know, Elle was always intelligent but preconceived notions made for very low expectations of her, and she kicked everyone’s ass and their assumptions. Every one of them. YES. I need more movies like this.

Get Over It

Get Over It

Dr. Desmond Forest Oates: Oh, that was fun. Who was the composer on that?
Kelly: Me, actually.
Dr. Desmond Forest Oates: Oh, I’m sorry, were you expecting applause?

Get Over It is more of a teen movie than a chick flick, so the humor’s crude in some places, but I love A Midsummer Night’s Rockin’ Eve. This movie poster doesn’t really show what the movie’s all about. It’s Berke trying to win back his ex by joining the drama club’s musical production while trying to balance basketball. That’s right. It’s the original High School Musical. Lots of big names in this movie too. Mila Kunis, Zoe Saldana, Ben Foster, Martin Short… dang.

Also, Shane West!!! ♥ We will always have the early ’00s.

If nothing else, you all need to check out this song from the movie.

What are your favorite movies? Do share them with everyone! And once again, Happy Holidays!

  1. Huzzah for getting into movie marathons! I usually do them with series like The Lord of the Rings. Right now, I’m doing it with The Hobbit, and I’m looking forward to watching the last one in 4D!

    You have a good list of movies there! I love Legally Blonde, one of my favourite chick flicks! Some of my favourites also include:

    * Clueless
    * October Sky
    * Whale Rider
    * The Dead Poets Society
    * The Lord of the Rings trilogy
    * To Kill a Mockingbird
    * Schindler’s List
    * 12 Angry Men

    . . . And so on. The list would go on for a while!

    Anyway, Happy Holidays, Raisa! You have a fabulous Christmas!

  2. that’s very sweet, watching movies with someone like that. for me, if christmas is about watching movie then it’s christmas for me everyday LOL nah jk. but yeah, i always watch movies alone on my pc, unless it’s something that’s playing in the cinema but that’s out of the topic, right. i don’t think anyone would want to watch a dvd with me on christmas though because the dvds and movies i collected, they’re all the serious crap and everyone’s like “don’t you have christmas-y movies!?” ….yea well i don’t collect fun, comedy movies or even chick flicks so… i don’t even watch most of them :P

    okay maybe that’s not quite true because i collect animated movies but that’s about it. unless it’s animated, my movie collection would be something like…inception, v for vendetta and then there’s dark knight and other scifi / thriller stuff. i DO have fun/drama fantasy ones like a series of unfortunate events, stardust, etc but yeah, no comedy LOL

    i remember watching devil wears prada in the plane. it was fun. not my super massive favorite but it was entertaining :) i have to admit though, from your list, i’ve only watched devil wears prada and i have no idea about the rest (see, that explains how shallow i am when it comes to movie genre like this :\) once i tried to “okay, let’s be light hearted for once and stop watching the dark grim serious crap” but i can’t last 5 minutes watching movies like this – no, i’m not saying they’re bad, please don’t get me wrong but yeah, they don’t drive my adrenaline and they don’t have me thinking or pinned on the edge of my seat, maybe that’s why i can never find the enthusiasm in chick flicks :s although i gotta say i do like blair from gossip girl just because she has such a queen attitude.

    it’s also one reason why people only go to me for recommendations on movies that are…well, not chick flick. i mean, they know i won’t give recommendations on chick flicks or comedy movies. they know i’d feed them movies that are… well, intense, so to speak. i do watch some drama/romance but they’re not the light hearted kind, i suppose (i mean, is spike jonze’s Her considered light hearted? i don’t think so)

    uh, my favorite movies eh… this is hard. i’ll do a top 10 then!

    (in no particular order)

    1. inception
    2. v for vendetta (THAT MASK.)
    3. pan’s labyrinth
    4. spike jonze’s her
    5. spike jonze’s where the wild things are
    6. artificial intelligence
    7. let me in
    8. cloud atlas
    9. now you see me
    10. across the universe (…or stardust …okay,i can’t choose)

    1. I love V for Vendetta! Haven’t seen that one in a while.

      I collect a lot of animated movies too. My family has a very wide-ranged collection. My dad loves biopics, I love period movies, and sister loves romcoms. I love watching movies because it reminds me of being with my family.

      No worries if chick flicks aren’t your thing! People have different tastes, and there’s a movie genre for everyone. :D

      1. dang, i rewatch v for vendetta like every time i feel like i run out of movies :P well, skipping few scenes though and only focusing on that part whenever hugo weaving’s in action :))

        oh i love biopics too! unfortunately my parents don’t, lol. my father falls asleep over biopics -__- he fell asleep when we watched the social network, same like my mom :P my father is all about full on war movies, those with loud gun and explosive sounds. he’s like..a sucker for action movies with barely any plot -__- like the expendables, man… (it kind of annoys me tbh HAHA) i do enjoy some period/historical movies (like spielberg’s Lincoln movie or 10,000 BC) i think it’s not surprising i like some of these stuff since i’m all for serious plot :))

        i probably should watch more romcoms so i can…ease off the tension i have in my life hahaha i do like easy A though (also because my girl crush emma stone was there!!)

        i know i said chick flicks aren’t my thing. well,they’re still not my thing but as i’m typing this, i’m currently watching gossip girl and it’s funny. i’m like, laughing sarcastically at everything that’s happening. thanks to blair waldorf that i finally decided to watch this series :)) i’m not sure if pretty little liars is considered chick flick… i do enjoy PLL though just for the sake of the mysteries surrounding the plot haha

        1. I love the fustercluck that is Gossip Girl. Team Dan and Serena! I actually stopped watching halfway through, but I read the ending and lololol I’m cackling.

          I’m off to watch Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina today. He’s one of my favorite directors. :D

          1. i never really cared about the debate between dan/serena or nate/serena. i like serena when she’s solo and i appreciate her that way too – her banter with chuck is hilarious. i love the banter between the core four though (nate,serena,chuck,blair) and chuck/blair is too amusing pfft

  3. Happy holidays, Raisa!

    I actually just finished watching “Get Over It” on Netflix an hour ago. I have never heard of it, but I am so glad to have decided to watch it after quickly taking a glimpse at your list. It was fun to watch! haha And Shane West looked so dorky in this film. XD And that scene you posted is now one of my favorites! hah!

    Like you, I enjoy chick flicks, especially those that go back to late 90s and early 2000s. Oh the nostalgia it brings! As for the other movies on your list, I’ve seen “Legally Blonde” dozens of times and also just watched it several days ago. I may have seen “Miss Congeniality” in the past, but I don’t ever recall watching “The Devil Wears Prada.” I should at least make that a mission for the rest of the winter break and watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy (because I never watched it *gasp*).

    My favorite movies? They’re not strictly chick flick material, but here goes:

    1. Hard Candy
    2. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
    3. 3, 2, 1… Frankie Go Boom
    4. Green Street Hooligans
    5. 10 Things I Hate About You
    6. The United States of Leland
    … and many more!

    1. That song’s been stuck in my head for days! Haha iconic song.

      Yes, I need to watch 10 Things next. Movie marathon is still going strong. :D

      Merry Christmas bb!

  4. Happy Holidays Raiza! :)

    I definitely love Legally Blonde and Devil Wears Prada! Shame on me for not watching Ms. Congeniality though. Hehe!

    Some of my personal favorites would be Titanic, She’s The Man, Celeste and Jesse Forever, Begin Again. Hehe :) Can’t think of any because I think I have a lot I can’t choose T_T

    1. Happy Holidays to you too!

      You should watch Miss Congeniality! It’s so fun. :D And yes, I love She’s the Man! My sister used to watch it over and over.

  5. Winter is always the best time to watch some movies at home! I remembered watching The Devil Wear Prada a couple of years ago. It was a pretty good movie! Though I haven’t watched the other three movies yet *o*. Legally Blonde sounds like a great movie that beats everyone’s preassumptions. Stereotypes can’t be applied to everyone!!

    My favorite movies…. One of them came from earlier this year; Need for Speed. I was tempting to watch it for my 10th time last night ;~;. As for movies before March, I didn’t mind rewatching some of the movies I watched in the theaters recently… Oh, Iron Man as well!

    Happy holidays!

  6. Movie marathons! Those are fun, haven’t had one in a while. Trying to convince Josh to get on a Harry Potter & a LOTR one so we can watch the Hobbit, but they’re only a zillion hours long. -_-

    Personally, I can’t stand chick flicks, but with the exception of Get Over It, I’ve seen all the movies! Chick flicks & chick shows are all too predictable to me so I tend to stay away from them. But Miss Congeniality was pretty funny & I used to watch Legally Blonde a lot as a kid. The sequel to that movie was terrrrrrrible. BUT ANYWAY, I have tons of favorite movies, can’t even name them all if I tried!

    I do have movies I’d recommend though! I haven’t seen too many recently because I feel like they’re such a commitment versus watching a TV show….which turns into a marathon which meant I could’ve just watched a movie haha…okay getting off track there, but here are some recommendations:

    1. Snowpiercer
    2. Jiro Dreams of Sushi
    3. Mr. Nobody
    4. The Global Catch
    5. Food, Inc.
    6. Saved!
    7. Babies
    8. Stardust
    9. World War Z
    10. Equilibrium
    11. The Grand Budapest Hotel

    Totally not a movie, but I cannot rave about the Peaky Blinders enough. It is an amazing Netflix series & all I want to do is talk about it with everyone. Just kidding, it’s really good, but I do other things too haha.
