Steam’s annual summer sale ended a few days ago, and while I wasn’t watching the deals too closely the first half of the week because of unpacking, Steam was evil generous enough to repeat all the of the Daily Deals over the weekend. In a span of less than fifteen minutes, I had become the shameful proud owner of six new games.

That’s a little bit more than my Steam haul last year, but I’m excited for my purchases this year! A few of them were recommended by some bloggers, and others I’ve been wanting for a while anyway. Here’s my haul:

The Stanley Parable

Michael was telling me about The Stanley Parable last week. Lo and behold, it was on sale a couple of days later! I grabbed a copy for myself. I can’t wait to start this game! The launch trailer‘s cute if a bit unsettling. :D

Just Cause 2

Cat mentioned Just Cause 2 a number of times, and I’ve been curious ever since. If the wackiness factor is anything like Saints Row‘s, I’ll definitely enjoy it! I love games that don’t take themselves too seriously.

Fallout Tactics

Huehuehuehue. Can we please talk about old-school Fallout? I love the newer ones, of course, but old-school Fallout is just as fun! At least when you’re not missing your target twenty times. :’D So I finally have my own copy of Fallout Tactics. This one’s not as popular as the others, but you know what? I’ll take it anyway. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Fun fact: I’ve also pre-ordered Fallout 4. >:D

Child of Light

Here’s a title I’ve heard of a few times! I don’t actually know much of Child of Light apart from how good it is, but it was only a couple of bucks soooooo… I guess I’m in for a pleasant surprise.

Valkyria Chronicles

Another title that I’ve heard plenty of good things about! Valkyria Chronicles was originally for the PS3 only, but it was ported to Windows last year. Woot! I don’t own any consoles besides a Nintendo 3DS, so I’m definitely loving all these PC ports. I did play this for a bit and the keyboard controls didn’t feel right to me, so I’ll be using my USB controller. I love having a controller for ported games. XD Feels so much more natural.

Wasteland 2

Here’s another fun fact: the Fallout franchise is considered to be the spiritual successor of the original Wasteland game. Obsidian and Deep Silver released Wasteland 2 last year as the continuation. Two of my favorite game developers, OMG I CAN’T HANDLE THIS. I did miss the initial release though because I was super busy juggling two jobs at the time and then I just forgot all about it, oops. I am here now to make amends!

Now when will I have time to play all these new games, you ask? SSSHHH DON’T THINK, JUST FEEL. But forreals, I’ll have more free time after this week. This weekend’s the home stretch of our unpacking and furnishing, then it’s freedom!! I can’t wait! This whole moving experience has been long and painful.

Beginning with last month when we had to get our utilities squared away before the move, picking out furniture, packing, numerous drives back and forth… I’ve rarely felt “normal” through this whole ordeal. And when I’m not in the right mindset, I can’t enjoy gaming very much. I don’t know, that’s just me. I’m hoping that after we’ve finished, I’ll be able to kick back, relax, and get back to emotional investment in pixels.

Did you purchase anything recently? Got any game recommendations? Post them down below!

  1. I’m a bit ashamed to say I bought nearly 30 games in the Steam sale last year … but before it I owned 0 games on Steam so it makes sense right? Hehehe. When will I ever have time to play them? Probably never especially since I will no longer have a gaming PC after this summer. :(

    I’ve heard about The Stanley Parable but I don’t understand how it works, so please let me know about it if you get to playing it! Just Cause 2 I grabbed in the Steam sale last year because Cat mentioned how good it is too! Valkryia Chronicles I bought in the Steam sale THIS year.

    Child of Light is one of my favorite games EVER. It is simply beautiful and the story is lovely and sad. I finished it last summer and to this day its soundtrack is still on my playlist! So glad you got it just hope Uplay doesn’t give you too much trouble!

    1. Apparently, I already had a UPlay account except I forgot my password lol. It hasn’t given me any problems yet, but I wish I didn’t have to sign in to play. Steam’s enough for me.

  2. Oooh The Stanley Parable is heaps fun! The actual mechanics are really simple (you’re just walking around and interacting with things), but it’s funny, clever and very meta. I really enjoyed it, lots of replay value (one run through of it is pretty short, but you’re expected to play it over a few times).

  3. That’s a good haul! I have Valkyria Chronicles for the PS3, but it’s in my massively huge backlog . . . seeing it on your post made me remember owning it. I’d no idea it was ported to the PC, though!

    My game recommendations for the 3DS (since you have one):

    * Any of the Gyakuten Saiban/Kenji (Ace Attorney/Investigation) games!
    * Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Calls
    * Time Hollow
    * Style Savvy: Trendsetters
    * The World Ends With You
    * Radiant Historia
    * Any of the Professor Layton games
    * 999 and Virtue’s Last Reward (though I heard VLR has a strange glitch on the 3DS version . . . )
    * Suikoden Tierkreis
    * Elite Beat Agents
    * Chrono Trigger (of course!!!)

  4. Yay, I hope you enjoy Just Cause 2! :D My husband kept bugging me to play it, and when I finally did, I had so much fun with it. The island in the game is so big! I spent around 47 hours and only completed like 57% of the game.

    Aahh, I almost got Stanley Parable in the sale. I think I’ll wait around for the next sale on that one. I loved Child of Light though. I played it on Wii U, and it’s such a beautiful and charming game :)

    I got Dishonored in the recent sale! I haven’t started it yet, but I’ve installed it, so it’s ready for me to play next. As for recommends, there’s some popular indie games that I really love, and they frequently show up on Steam sales:

    Bastion, Transistor, Orcs Must Die!, Guacamelee, Mark of the Ninja, and Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

    (If you like stealth games, Mark of the Ninja is soooooo good.)

  5. I didn’t even realize Steam had their annual sale this past week! Now you see how out of tune I am with the gaming realm XD. Hopefully you got an awesome deal out of the games you got!

    All of these games looks pretty neat! I can imagine Fallout Tactics being my kind of game for some reason XD. It’s a good way to relive the past!! I’m sure you won’t have any problem finishing the games ;). You deserve some gaming time, especially all of the unpacking and moving you have done!

    Literally today, I purchased The Crew EXCEPT I bought the season pass, which is supposedly the DLC upgrade without buying the actual game… Then I had to buy the actual game too. There goes $85 D’:. But I’m sure this game is worth it, even though I’m like 8 months late into the release!

    1. It’s okay, I tend to be out of the loop with game news too! I get my game news from Tumblr, so if it’s news my feed doesn’t particularly care about, I’d miss it.

      Wow $85! I hope you can put in at least a hundred hours on The Crew! XD
